From "Courage is Calling," by Ryan Holiday:
"Whatever we do, we cannot surrender to bitterness. We must reject the heresy of despair.
We can't give up on ourselves or on other people. We have to tell ourselves a story - about history, about our lives - that emphasizes agency, progress, the chance of redemption."
Tragedy will wedge it's way into the life of nearly every family at some point. "Normal" will be disrupted. Someone will get horribly injured or sick. Or, they'll be born with conditions that impact their entire life. That someone will need help in ways most people never imagined. It will be hard on the person. It will also be hard on the person's caregiver, whose life is also forever changed due to the needs of their loved one.
Unrevealed Purpose tells the stories of caregivers, referred to here as "Advocates" because they accept Job #1 to advocate for the best life possible for the person they love who has life altering circumstances that cannot be escaped. Advocates drive their person to appointments. Advocates become semi-professional nurses, physical therapists, chefs, and hairdressers. And, Advocates do almost all of it in the background. They are Advocates only because they love someone who needs advocacy. They did not choose the circumstances that made them Advocates. But, everyday, they choose their outlook about those circumstances. They tell themselves a story about the future that inspires their actions today. Despite their Purpose being Unrevealed, Advocates persevere on the quest towards it.
